Background
The NAFA Chinese Cultural Society was co-founded in response to the absence of a structured platform dedicated to Chinese culture, heritage, and contemporary cultural discussion within NAFA’s diverse student community.
As one of Singapore’s leading arts institutions, NAFA brings together students from multiple cultural and disciplinary backgrounds. The society was conceived as a space not only for cultural celebration, but for critical engagement with Chinese culture as a living, evolving system—situated within Southeast Asia and the global context.
Description
The society operates as a student-led cultural organisation focusing on cultural exchange, public programmes, workshops, talks, exhibitions, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible, welcoming students regardless of ethnic background or prior cultural knowledge.
Through regular programming and open participation, the society quickly developed into the largest student society at NAFA, becoming an active platform for connection, dialogue, and cultural production across departments.
Beyond event-based activities, the society also established internal organisational structures, documentation practices, and continuity mechanisms to ensure sustainable operation across student cohorts.
